Registered Teams

Traditionally held in early August at Dragan Field, participation is limited to teams with at least one true Greenhorn player. Greenhorn players are defined as players who have played in two or fewer organized tournaments OR who have played more than two tournaments but never above the PDGA-sanctioned Recreational division (players with a sub-900 PDGA rating).

More experienced players are welcome to participate but they are required to partner with a true Greenhorn player. The tournament director holds final say on whether an experienced player and partner are allowed to participate. If you are unsure, please ask.

The Greenhorn Doubles Format

8:00AM – 9:00AM – Check in
9:00AM – Rules Clinic
10:15AM – Round 1 begins
~12:30PM – Lunch Break
~1:30pm – Round 2 begins
~4:00pm – Awards

The day begins with a registration and check-in period in which players receive their player’s packages (usually 8:00am to 9:30am). Check-in is followed by a 30-45 minute clinic going over the ins and outs of typical tournament etiquette and rules of play. The first round of play follows.

Doubles in the Greenhorn tournament is always best shot doubles. In best shot doubles, both partners throw from their lie, choosing the better of the two throws from which to continue to play. Each hole ends when one player from each team in the group holes out in the target.

After round one, there is a break for lunch. Groups are re-shuffled based on first round scores and sent back out for the second round. Following round two, awards are given for the best overall scores of the day.
